Help with PCI Cards

I upgraded my computer from an HP P1/166 to a Gateway G7 P3/550, both running Win98.
In the process, Imoved my Byterunner 4-port PCI-400 serial card from the HP to the Gateway. The Gateway insists that the Byterunner card be configured to IRQ9, along with the sound card and video monitor.
2 questions:
1. Will there be performance issues when I have them all up and running (i.e., operating a contest!)?
2. How can I change the IRQ settings forthe PCI-400? Bytreunner and others suggested moving hte card to a different slot, but that didn't seem to make any difference.
Any help is appreciated!

As long as your MB drivers supports IRQ steering you shouldn't have any problems.

Looking at 'Control Panel|System|Device Manager|System Devices|PCI Bus'
I see that the IRQ Steering is controlled by the following (you can check these off):
Use IRQ Steering
Get IRQ table using ACPI BIOS
Get IRQ table using MS Specification table
Get IRQ table from Protected Mode PCI BIOS 2.1 call
Get IRQ table from Real Mode PCI BIOS 2.1 call
Defaults checked off are Use IRQ Steering; Get IRQ table using ACPI BIOS; Get IRQ table using MS Specification table; Get IRQ table from Real Mode PCI BIOS 2.1call;
Are these settings correct? Ican't seem to find out anything about them...
Any help is appreciated.

The PCI bus is designed to have multiple devices sharing the same IRQ. Because the CPUs are so fast, the IRQ optimizations we used to have to do with the ISA bus aren't really required.
I am sure you will find that your setup works fine during the contest this weekend.

The IRQs chosen by a PCI card are largely dependent on the PCI slot the card is installed in.
Remove the card, boot the PC so it knows the card is gone, turn it off and put the card in a different slot. Should pick up a different IRQ.
But as others have said, it don't make no nevermind what IRQ it's using. As long as the machine is happy, you should be happy.
