Contesting Online Survey

Survey Question Current Survey Question

Do you plan to enter the CQ WW DX Contest?

Recent Surveys

Recently the RDXC committee reclassified P3F to high power from low power without publicly providing strong evidence that any infraction had occurred. They concluded was that the contestant was running HP on 80/40m but not full-time, just 10 minutes here and there without any convincing evidence. It appears they used the RBN as their source of information. Should the RXDC contest have to publicly provide convincing evidence before reclassifying a station from LP to HP?

Randy, K5ZD, wrote a sidebar titled " Convergence and Change" in the 2015 CQWW CW printed results in CQ magazine. He wrote that the "convergence of personal computers, Internet access, DX clusters, and CW Skimmer have changed the nature of CW contesting". He goes to say that it is "more difficult to police the line between the single operator working alone and those who are using the assistance of DX spotting." In light of this convergence and change is it time to recombine SO and SOA into a single category?

N3FJP
It it so easy to use and easy to interface with the rig and other programs (such as for RTTY). I use it for my main logging software and it's simple to add the contest QSO's into my main log. I haven't tried some of the others in many years but I remember when I did. CT was still DOS, N1MM had a help file that was as thick as war and peace.

N3FJP
Tried the free logging programs, including N1MM, but none can beat N3FJP, IMHO. Gladly paid for the whole suite, which includes a lifetime of updates and added programs. Used it for the first time at my club's Field Day, then tried the free ones because I didn't want to have to buy a logging program if there was one out there for free. They were kinda confusing and hard to learn. N3FJP is intuitive and easy to grasp, but very powerful! No regrets!

UCX-Log, great all around and contesting log.
Takes time to get used to.

Writelog
Excellent stability and reliability. Used for
many years. Packet allows rack and stack by
Azimuth & Band some others do not. Most
features menu select-able rather than modular.

Simple and easy to use.

N1MM+
Plus has dragged me kicking and screaming
away from Writelog - Shame that it (N1MM+)
doesn't score individual reports for Multi Op
or have good multi op support but I am sure
that is coming

Easy to use with a straight forward interface and
extremely well supported by the developer. Never have
thought about changing. Would recommend it to
anyone.

Still using NA. Seems to work fine for me for most contests. Don't use it for radio control, though.

DX-LOG
Morserunner integration even on SO2R and good integration of C# scripts for customizing besides all other features makes DX-LOG my preferred Contest Training and logging Software. Look and feel is very close to Win-Test.

N1MM+
I started my career with CT, after that there were periods of TRLog, TR4W, WinTest and now N1MM+. It meets my needs best of all tried before. Do not look for anything else now.

G3WYW
SD is my preferred contest program for CW and
SSB contests as a single user contester.
Supports SO2R but not networking or data
modes.

I like the simplicity of the layout. It is
very powerful if you get to understand all its
features.

N3FJP - love the simplicity. Not a hard-core contester, but works great for my needs

I have used 'SD' for more than 15 years - works well with my Microham MK 11 - no multiple keystrokes, just keep hitting enter.
Supports just about every contest.

WriteLog
I have been using WL since 2001. It can be
learned in "a contest" period. It accurately
scores, displays multi's, and dupes clearly
in color. It is stable and is continually
improved and updated. I use T-Tone in
contests. The layout can be customized and
saved. I do like the waterfall in MMAVRI for
daily use. Try it, you will stick with it.
Thanks Wayne for a great program.

Back to N1MM
As I posted below on July 17th, I tried DXLab Suite and also tried Ham Radio Deluxe. I have gone back to N1MM+ as for me it is much easier and quicker to use. It has a very good online manual and large help community if you need them. It is no surprise to me that it is the most used logging program in the survey... by a big margin.

Wrote my own using dBase 3+ using the cabrillo file structure as the native data source to match my exact needs (and no more). Programming dBase3+ or dBase4 are archaeological these days, but is perfect for cabrillo..

It logs anything and allows with free text to capture 'anything' even what hear later on, like a corrected callsign or a serial number flag. The export generates 2 versions of submission, fixed exchange based and serial number based, and as it does the export, it queries the free text for 'likes'.. not the facebook ones.. and ALL the possible contest Cabrillo names.

Even got dBase 3+ to export direct into MS Excel 2013 (not simple) and the very simple ADIF format.. but never did get to write the 'claim score' part.

I does basic data lookup and index checks ALL my logs over the past 5 years.. between keystrokes ! kind of of personal partial checker..

OK, it's DOS based, and cannot run it on Windows 7,8 or 10, so am hoping my T30 Laptop memory chip and battery don't fail..

CLEAR ALL
SELECT 1
USE CABRILLO.DBF
DO HAVEFUN

David

N1MM or N1MM+
I am still using N1MM, a version that
supports recording audios. It is a rather old
version but suits my needs.

Is there some really good feature in N1MM+ so
I should change?

N1MM
I am using Win Test and it is really great
software, I used N1MM and it is free, but it
needs to be more professional as Win Test

Writelog
I have been using Writelog for 15 years.
They have done a very good job of keeping it
up to date. I have tried N1MM, it is very
good; no negative here, but I found it was
too complex for what I wanted.

N1MM+
I like the simplicity and the layout of N1MM.

I have SD, but prefer N1MM

(tend to use N1MM for the biggies, and SD for the RSGB 80CC events)

So far N1MM has been faultless - seemless with Winkey and my IC-703.

DXlab suite
I am a new ham and have used N1MM for contesting. I do like it and it is one of the standards for contesting. I am trying DXLab Suite now as I am looking for an all purpose logging program that will handle day to day contacts as well as DX and contesting.
