Attract newcomers
|
1. Get them to 3Party QSO on a local repeater with somebody nice and willing to waste a few minutes and actually has a personality.
2. Set up an HF rig and contact somebody in another state, then have the newcomer 3Party to the distant ham. Once they do this, they're usually hooked, and the questions come: how long did it take to learn this? what do I need to do to get a license?

What ways have you found to be effective to attract newcomers to our hobby?

I talk about the subject to people I think have an ability with computers or electronics and explain the wonders of our chosen pastime and get them interested in attempting the exam(s).

N3FJP's software - I don't care about rig control because I generally operate mobile/portable and don't have any towers or rotators. N3FJP's software includes individual, custom-created logs for most major contests and generic contest loggers for other uses. They're simple, easy to use, intuitive to configure, and quick! I shelled out the coin for the entire package before I even used up the trial offer on the first one!

I show off my gear and invite non-hams to try it out (under supervision). A lot of today's young people are astounded by the capabilities and modern aspects of the hobby; their vision of ham was some ancient veteran hunched in front of an archaic boat anchor of equipment.
